Huntsville’s Free Support Hub for Alzheimer’s Caregivers
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Families in Huntsville who are burdened with the demands of caregiving for loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related forgetfulness have a new avenue of support. The Gathering Place, a community initiative, now offers a free monthly service for these caregivers.
Hosted on the first Tuesday of every month, from 10am to 1:30pm at the First Baptist Church-Huntsville, The Gathering Place gives family caregivers a much-needed break. During this time, individuals living with dementia are engaged in an assortment of activities, including games, music, exercise, crafts, lunch, and social interaction in a secure and nurturing setting.
The Gathering Place is a collaborative effort, sponsored by Creekside Retirement Community and managed by dedicated volunteers trained in the Alzheimer’s Care Team model, a unique approach devised by CarePartners. Sunetta Johnson and Todd Partin, representatives of the Methodist Retirement Communities, urge families to take advantage of this opportunity.

In a display of communal spirit, several establishments have become ministry partners in this initiative. These include the First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, First Christian Church, and CarePartners, all working in concert to alleviate the stress and strains of caregiving within the community.
