Bond Election for New Hospital in Walker County

The Walker County Hospital District has unanimously decided to initiate a bond election for $246,000,000 to fund a new, state-of-the-art hospital. The decision, made on February 10, 2025, aims to address the growing healthcare needs of Walker County residents.

Planned Hospital Features

If approved, the new facility will offer expanded and modernized services, including:

  • 60 new private medical/surgical rooms (with 12 shelled for future expansion)
  • 12 new ICU rooms
  • 8 new labor and delivery rooms, including a C-section room (shelled)
  • 6 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) rooms (shelled)
  • 6 new inpatient rehab rooms
  • 22 new emergency rooms
  • 6 operating rooms (1 shelled)
  • 3 procedure rooms
  • A new imaging department
  • New cafeteria, lobby, and registration areas

The current hospital building will remain operational, housing an expanded laboratory, pharmacy, warehouse, and main kitchen, along with office spaces for support services. Correctional care will be moved to a separate, fully secured facility with dedicated ER, radiology, and surgical services.
