Are you new to filing your federal income taxes? SHSU’s Bearkat Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Center provides a free service to individuals with a household income of $60,000 or less. You can get assistance with filing your taxes through Zoom or email on Wednesday afternoons from Feb. 8 to April 12, 2022. Last year, the VITA Center successfully processed around 174 tax returns and aims to help even more people this year. After you provide your materials, the center will review them and prepare your tax return at a later date. Once it’s ready, the center will call you for filing. SHSU’s VITA services are not only free but also reliable and trustworthy.

VITA volunteers who prepare returns undergo tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards, and the center operates under IRS-approved security protocols.

Check if you qualify for the free VITA services online through the Program Eligibility Checklist. View the checklist PDF below.

To make an appointment on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., contact the VITA Center at vitacenter@shsu.edu or call 936-294-1263.
