Four finalists with extensive city government experience to interview February 4.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 31, 2025) — The City of Huntsville is pleased to announce four finalists for the position of City Manager. Each of the four candidates has extensive knowledge of city operations. These candidates will participate in interviews with the Huntsville City Council at the City Council Special Meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The four finalists are:

Troy Besseche: Currently serving as the Assistant City Manager for Sugar Hill, Georgia, Besseche has over 25 years of experience in local government. His expertise spans engineering, economic and community development, utility operations, capital projects, parks and recreation, and public works. Besseche has been instrumental in implementing innovative solutions in municipal operations and has played a key role in transforming Sugar Hill’s downtown area.

Brent Sherrod: Currently serving as the Director of Public Works for Huntsville, Texas, Sherrod has a strong background in engineering. He excels in providing efficient and effective public works services. Sherrod’s leadership skills play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the city’s infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Scott Swigert: Currently serving as the City Manager for Cleveland, Texas, Swigert has experience in city administration. He oversees the day-to-day operations of the city, including emergency services, utilities, public works, and economic development. Swigert has a proven record of enhancing city services and fostering community growth.

Nieman Young, Ph.D.: Recently served as the Assistant City Manager for Corpus Christi, Texas. Young has a diverse background in organizational leadership, operations, and communications. He has led various city departments, including engineering services, public works, and solid waste. Young is a two-time recipient of the U.S. Bronze Star for his outstanding service in the military.
